One reason I switched to substack was so that I wouldn’t be constantly creating content for Facebook to profit off of and use to bring about the apocalypse. And it worked! Or did it. In fact what happened was I stopped posting my every passing thought that I found humorous online, and thus, cut off my steady stream of dopamine hits when my friends found the comments humorous as well. The result was a lessening of my dopamine addiction, and a return to pre-Internet things like, reading books. Drawing pictures and generally staring off into space. But all that means I’ve let this blog wane a little, which one is NOT supposed to do if you want to be a social networking hero. But as Tina Turner once said, we don’t need another hero.
With these posts I find I try to make them count. Make them stick. I end up editing and retreading them for hours before unleashing them on the planet—the opposite of the social networking bon-mot. One of my favorite FB Posts I ever threw up was something along these lines: “when you run into a spider web, know that a spider has tried and failed to eat you. You’re doing great!”
I COULD just write a substack post with that, but it seems a bit like overkill to send an email out to all you all with a ridiculous sentiment about non-near death experiences.
A recent post I was writing never made it up here. On second and third read I realized I just sounded like a jerk. So in a way this project has been great, I am finally self editing! Which sadly is half the fun of the Feebs (my suggested new name for Facebook.)
Lack of filters makes for fun posts, but bad society. Maybe the Feebs has to have a filter installed in which it asks, “really? If really, click post.”
So despite my grand announcements I still lurk on the feebs. Clicking likes on interesting things, ignoring all ads. Wishing people happy birthday. Maybe, what it comes down to is the old adage, “everything in moderation.” Except meth.
So I’ll leave this here. Unedited. A string of random thoughts for you to decide if it made sense to hit “post” on.
The Lethargy
This writing about what is or is not ridiculous to write about and have us spend time reading makes me happy. 😁 I enjoyed my time spent reading it.
